Plant-Diet Day

i've wanted to do this for some time and i'm glad to say that i finally did it yest. The intention is not religious, health or budgetary but environmental. i enjoy my meat tremendously but i've also realised that the increased demand on livestock globally is straining the planet. i quote from the ST on 25 Feb:
"...livestock accounts for 35-40 per cent of global emissions of methane, which is about 21 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period. The damage does not end there: 65 per cent of global nitrous oxide emissions - the most lethal of the three greenhouse gases and 296 times more effective than carbon dioxide in trapping heat - comes from livestock..."
if one is willing to do more research, i'm sure there'll probably be more evidence.

Consequently, i've decided to pick one of the days in the week to have a meat/milk/eggs-free diet. This is not being vegan for the sake of the environment, this is to cut down on demand for livestock products for 'Consumer-led Environmental Change'! If we want to continue eating meat without killing the planet, we need to eat sustainably! Besides helping the environment, i'd wanted to see for myself how difficult and away from the mainstream this is. i'm happy to have completed my first Plant-Diet Day on 25 Feb 10!

This is what i ate:
- Bowl of instant noodles
- Slice of papaya
- Fried 'economical' kway teow with beancurd and springroll
- 2 slices of wholemeal bread
- Cup of M-sized Coke from Mac's
(yar i know it looks completely random right? haha.. )

This is what i'd wanted to eat/drink but couldn't:
- Kaya
- Milk Tea
- Yoghurt

On Ps Rony Tan

As many will know, i was away being a merfolk for a prolonged period of time and hence did not manage to keep abreast of all that's happening in town. i only got to know abt this incident on Tue when i read the ST on the apology Ps Rony Tan gave.

As some will know, i am a Christian but i'm not here to comment on who's right and who's not. Objectively, religions always differ with each other and are often mutually exclusive in some of the things they believe in. Furthermore, we are all human and it is completely probable to err.

The point is this: when surfing online forums on the responses SGreans are giving, i make this one observation. Pple are unwilling to forgive. The civil call for his arrest, the less civil call for his blood. While some may say that it is a matter of justice and equality (especially in comparison with the 3 teenagers), i will say that the law should do what the law does but as individuals, we can do what we choose to do. Others may argue that he is undeserving of forgiveness but isn't that the whole point of forgiveness to begin with?

i remember reading Philip Yancey point out clearly, that the only thing Christianity offers which nothing else does, is Grace. Giving and forgiving when it is undeserved. To all Christians, all i want to say is, he may be right or he may be wrong. But in whatever way you choose to respond to the ppl ard you, do not forget to be gracious. =)

"Then Jesus said unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." - Matt 26:52 (KJV)

满江红

For the strangest reason, it popped into my head this morning and i spent half the day recollecting it.

We used to sing this frequently and at least once a yr, when we trample upon the hopes of so many other sec schools by winning the 'B' & 'C' Div Track & Field Championships. Fond memories. =)

怒髮衝冠,憑欄處,瀟瀟雨歇。
抬望眼,仰天長嘯,壯懷激烈。
三十功名塵與土,八千里路雲和月。
莫等閒 白了少年頭,空悲切。

靖康恥,猶未雪;
靖康恥,猶未雪;
駕長車踏破 賀蘭山缺!
壯志飢餐胡虜肉,笑談渴飲匈奴血。
待從頭收拾舊山河,朝天闕。

Contrary to popular belief, the reason for the severe shortage of blog entries and tweets is not becos i'm too busy to write abt my life.
Instead, the reason is simply becos for the past 5 weeks, i very much do not have a life.

i am going to become rich and famous by getting a patent for a T-shirt design that says:
"Jesus came to give me life but my work took it away!"
